Everything you need to know about Frontier Utilities
At Choose Energy, we partner with dependable energy providers because we’re serious about building a trusted relationship with our users.
Every electric company on our marketplace must meet our standards for reliability, customer service, affordability, and plan variety. Frontier Utilities successfully fulfills these criteria, and we’re pleased to feature the provider on our site.
Types of rates offered by Frontier Utilities
As you browse Frontier energy plans on our marketplace, you may come across two types of plans: fixed-rate and variable-rate.
- Fixed-rate plans. If you choose one of these plans, you’ll pay a set rate for electricity, which won’t change as long as your contract is active. Usually, these agreements last between one and three years. Fixed-rate plans are ideal if you appreciate predictable energy costs, but keep in mind that they typically include an early termination fee (ETF) if you end your plan before the contract expires.
- Variable-rate plans. In contrast, variable-rate plans are contract-free — you can terminate your plan or switch providers at any time without paying an ETF. Your rate will change based on the wholesale price of energy, which can rise or fall significantly from month to month.

No-deposit options from Frontier Utilities
At the moment, Frontier Utilities doesn’t offer no-deposit or prepaid energy plans. However, depending on your credit history, you may be able to bypass the deposit requirement. Call Choose Energy at the phone number on this page to learn more.
Green energy with Frontier Utilities
Frontier’s plans contain 26% green energy, which exceeds Texas’ statewide requirement that all electricity plans derive at least a small portion of their power from renewable sources (such as solar). You can learn how much renewable power is in your plan by reading its Electricity Facts Label (EFL).
Moving or transferring service with Frontier Utilities
Preparing to move? If you’re a Frontier Utilities customer staying within the company’s service area, you can take your plan with you. Otherwise, you may be able to switch to a different Frontier Utilities plan or sign up with another provider.
Renting with Frontier Utilities
As a renter, you can choose from several excellent Frontier Utilities plans, including fixed-rate and variable-rate options. If you’re in a temporary living situation, you might find that variable-rate plans make the most sense for you since they’re month-to-month agreements. Otherwise, you can choose a fixed-rate plan with a term length that aligns with your lease.
Cancellation fees
With most providers, you’ll need to pay an ETF to cancel a fixed-rate contract early (variable-rate plans don’t have these fees). The Frontier Utilities cancellation fee is $150 for 12-month plans and $200 for 24-month plans.
Satisfaction guarantee
Frontier Utilities has a happiness guarantee for new customers. If you aren’t happy with your new plan, you can change it — with the usual Frontier Utilities cancellation fee waived — within 60 days of signing up.
