Everything you need to know about TXU Energy
TXU Energy is one of Texas’s leading energy providers. Criteria we consider include reliability, variety of plans, affordability, and customer satisfaction. TXU Energy meets all of these criteria, which is why we’re happy to partner with them.
Types of rates offered by TXU Energy
TXU Energy offers several different types of energy plans, including fixed and variable rate options.
- Fixed rate plans: With a fixed-rate plan, you pay a single rate per kWh for the electricity that you use each month. Contracts tend to last from 12 to 36 months. This plan type is best for consumers who want stability and protection from changes in the energy market. However, you may have to pay an early termination fee (ETF) if you end your contract early.
- Variable rate plans: Variable-rate plans are ideal for consumers who don’t want to be locked into a contract. The rate per kilowatt-hour you pay changes each month based on the wholesale cost of energy, so your bill is likely to fluctuate.
- Prepaid energy plans: Prepaid plans are a no-deposit option where you pay for electricity as you go. These plans also do not lock you into a contract and do not require a deposit to begin service. Consider a prepaid plan if you are looking to reduce your electricity usage and bill.
Enter your ZIP code into the Choose Energy marketplace to learn more about rates and plan types in your area.
No-deposit options from TXU Energy
For those who wish to avoid paying a deposit or have a lower credit score, a no-deposit plan might be the best option. TXU Energy offers some no-deposit and prepaid plans. Enter your ZIP code to find which TXU Energy no-deposit plans are available in your area.
Green energy with TXU Energy
TXU Energy offers several green plan options using renewable energy from the solar power available in Texas. There are Solar Value, Solar Saver, Solar Club, and Free Nights & Solar Days plans. The amount of renewable energy in these plans ranges from 6% to 100%, which you can find more about by reviewing the Electricity Facts Label of your plan.

The fee depends on your provider and the length of the plan you have. TXU Energy charges fees ranging from $150 to $395 for early termination of your plan.

TXU Energy plans
Customers have several TXU Energy plans to choose from, with a variety of rates and terms. The following are some of the options customers will find on the Choose Energy marketplace.
Smart Edge 12:
With this 12-month fixed-rate plan, you can get a Smart Savings bill credit of $30 for each billing cycle when you use more than 800 kWh. We recommend this plan if you consistently use 800 kWh or more a month. Because the $30 savings doesn’t apply to usage less than 800 kWh, we do not recommend this plan to customers with lower energy consumption.
Flex Rewards:
This variable-rate plan allows you to pay month-to-month and receive 3% cashback with loyalty rewards. More information about the 3% cashback reward is available in the plan’s EFL. As you are not locked into a specified term, there are no early cancellation fees, but your usage rate can vary from month to month. This is a great option for customers who do not want a contract.
Free Nights & Solar Days 12 (8 p.m.):
This 12-month fixed-rate plan uses 100% renewable energy. TXU Energy purchases solar energy and solar renewable energy credits each month equal to the full amount of your usage during the day, between 5:00 a.m. and 7:59 p.m., and wind renewable energy credits equal to your usage at night, from 8:00 p.m. to 4:59 a.m. Customers receive a 100% discount on all energy charges and TDU delivery charges during night hours. We recommend this plan to customers who spend more time at home during the evenings as opposed to the day, such as families with children in school or those with day jobs.
Smart Deal 12:
This fixed-rate plan has a contract starting at 12 months. You can receive a Smart Savings bill credit of $30 each billing cycle if your usage exceeds 1,200 kWh. The energy charge is the least expensive for customers who use between 1,201 and 2,000 kWh, so we recommend this plan if your monthly usage consistently falls within this range.

Tips for best electricity plans
Choose Energy makes the process of starting or switching to a new plan simple. Once you choose your energy plan, your new provider will handle the process of setting up your electricity.
Choose Energy's tips for electricity service set-up
Read the Electricity Facts Label before making a final decision on your plan. For each plan, you’ll learn:
- Price per kWh based on how much electricity you use
- How much of the plan’s energy comes from renewable sources
- The plan’s early termination fees, if applicable
Enjoy hands-off set up. Once your plan is confirmed, TXU Energy will finalize the set-up process with your utility or transmission and distribution service provider (TDSP) for you. Additionally, there’ll be no disruption of service when you’re changing providers.
Understand your electricity bill. Your bill will contain charges from TXU Energy for the amount of electricity you use and from your utility or TDSP for delivering it to your home. The TDSP also maintains the power lines and restores outages. If there is a power outage near you, contact your utility company.
